Book 1 is set in Pompeii and tells stories of Caecilius' family.
Book 2 is set in Roman Britain and then in Alexandria. We meet Salvius and hear more about Quintus.
Book 3 is set in Roman Britain where there is a plot to kill Cogidubnus and follows the adventures of Modestus, a Roman soldier.
Book 4 is set in Rome and continues the adventures of Salvius who gets involved in some imperial plotting.
Book 5 introduces some Roman authors as well as concluding the story of Salvius with a trial.
