Advanced Level Art and Design

The advanced level course pre-supposes a level of competence in practical skills gained during a GCSE course. A grade B or above at GCSE is required. The 'A' level provides our students with the opportunity to pick up from where they left off at the end of the GCSE course. Students are encouraged to work in a more ambitious way, and with the greater amount of time available, they are able to apply themselves in a more sustained manner.

This course encourages an adventurous and enquiring approach to art and design. Successful students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of past and contemporary art and design practice and be able to produce artwork that embraces a range of ideas.

The AS course is made up of units 1, and 2. The full Advanced GCE is made up of the two AS units plus 3 and 4, which are known as A2.
